Despite all the success that a large handful of students from around the area, including winning more gold medals than Team Canada's gold total at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, local track and field runners are still looking for more.

Some of their results may have been a surprise but there were a few results that definitely were no surprise when the East Central Districts of track and field came and went last week.

The Yorkton United U12 Chelsea soccer team traveled to Swift Current this past weekend May 28-30 to compete in a tournament. Yorkton dropped their first round robin game to Coaldale Thunder 6-1.

The season openers for the Yorkton Cardinals had been scheduled for this past Sunday but were cancelled and re-scheduled for last night at Jubilee Park. Results of the games were not available in time for press.

The Yorkton Junior Bulldogs gave those in attendance a really good showing in the third period of their 2010 season opener of the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League home opener when the usually-powerful Moose Jaw Mustangs came to down Saturday.

The Gloria Hayden Community Centre's spring and summer hours of operation (May 17-Sept. 6) are Monday-Friday 8:30 a.m.-12 noon, and 1 p.m.-4:30 p.m. Closed on weekends and statutory holidays.

Three events in the 55FA 55+ Games have been completed in the Parkland Valley Districts.In cribbage, which was held in Yorkton, there were 40 competitors. There is only one age category and that was 55+.

The Yorkton Active Transportation Collaborative partners with Safe Kids Canada for Bicycle Safety Awareness Week in Sask (May 31-June 5).

The Alexander's Menswear Yorkton Junior Cardinals have opened up the 2010 season with a perfect record through seven games. The team will be playing the Yorkton Yankees Thursday evening at Jubilee Park at 6:15 p.m.

It's amazing the effect a little hard work can have on someone. Some of the success the YRHS experienced at the biggest track meet in town last week can attribute their success to the training they did over the winter months at the Yorkton Legion.
