Conservatives are questioning Liberals about the carbon tax

What do you think when someone says they have a secret? Do you assume it’s good or bad information? It can go either way. There are some nice secrets, like surprise parties or Christmas presents.

What do you think when someone says they have a secret? Do you assume it’s good or bad information? ÌýÌý

It can go either way. There are some nice secrets, like surprise parties or Christmas presents.Ìý

But, most of the time, people keep secrets because they’ve done something very bad, but don’t want to face up to it. When it comes to the Liberal government’s secrecy about the carbon tax, it’s obviously the latter.Ìý

The Conservative Opposition has been questioning the Liberals about the cost of carbon tax to farmers who use propane and natural gas for grain drying.

Many farmers have been feeling the pinch from this ineffective, job-killing tax, with rough individual estimates getting up into the thousands of dollars.Ìý

The Grain Farmers of Ontario and other agricultural groups estimate that in 2019 alone the tax cost the national ag sector upwards of $35 million and that this amount will likely rise to over $100 million by 2022, when the Liberals plan to up the carbon tax.Ìý

The problem with these figures is that they are only rough estimates. To get a total picture of the impact of the tax on farmers, you would need to have full access to the nation’s books and an army of economic analysts at your command.

In other words, you would have to be the government. ÌýÌý

Liberal Agriculture Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau admitted at a conference in February that a full analysis had been done and that she knows what the carbon tax is costing farmers.Ìý

But she’s not telling anyone. The report has been marked Top Secret. It appears the information in this report is so explosive, so damaging to the Liberals’ reputation, they don’t dare let anyone see it. ÌýÌý

Their silence speaks volumes. From the outset, the Liberals have claimed, for consumers and farmers alike, that the carbon tax is revenue neutral.

By supressing the report, the Liberals are tacitly acknowledging what Conservatives and Canadians know to be true – that the carbon tax is draining hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars out of the economy.Ìý

And for what? Canada’s greenhouse gas emissions continue to rise. The tax has been completely ineffective in fighting climate change, but it makes the cost of living more expensive for hardworking families.Ìý

While the Liberals can hide a study, they can’t hide the facts. Conservatives would like to ask every farmer in Saskatchewan to help us shine a light on the Liberals’ carbon tax scheme.

If you would like to help us shine a light on the true cost of the Liberal carbon tax, let me know what they are charging you by emailing me at [email protected].
