WESTERN SASKATCHEWAN - The Estevan Bruins went 1-1 on a weekend road trip through western Saskatchewan, as they pulled off a win over the reigning SJHL champions, the Battlefords North Stars, but then lost to the Kindersley Klippers on Saturday.
Tristan Dussault scored with 77 seconds to play in overtime in the Bruins' 5-4 victory over the Stars in a game the Bruins led 3-0 after the first period. Felix Allard, Dillon Jackson and Ilia Chmelevski scored 5:36 apart in the first period to give the Bruins the three-goal cushion.
They had further chances to score in the first and second periods, and held a 28-18 edge in shots on goal after 40 minutes. Tanner Gold scored late in the second to pull the Stars to within one, and Kian Bell and Brayden Sinclair had goals less than two minutes apart in the third to tie the game.
Blake Heward's goal with less than four minutes to play in the third put the Bruins up by one again, but Gold scored his second of the game with less than eight seconds to play to tie the game again, setting the stage for Dussault's winning goal.
Jackson Miller stopped 26 shots for the Bruins, and Joey Hawco had 37 saves for the Stars. Each team had three power-play goals on the night.
It was the first loss for the Stars on home ice since Oct. 20.
Estevan fell 5-4 to the Kindersley Klippers on Saturday. The game was tied at 2-2 early in the second, but then Logan Linklater, Kayden Ostrom and Keenan Ingram scored in less than 10 minutes apart to put the Klippers ahead by three.
Bruin goals came from Carsyn Dyck in the first period, Keagon Little in the second, and Allard and Dussault in the third. Dussault's goal was with 35 seconds to play in the game.
Easton Inglis and Cash Arnsten had Kindersley's other goals.
Cam Hrdlicka made 24 saves for the Bruins, while Logan Falk stopped 34 shots for Kindersley.
Estevan (11-11-0-2) will be back on the road when they visit the Melfort Mustangs on Dec. 6. Then they are at the Nipawin Hawks on Dec. 8 and 9.
