Environment Canada鈥檚 meteorologists were tracking a potentially dangerous thunderstorm in the Assiniboia area at 7:24 p.m. C.S.T on July 7.

This storm was said to be adept in creating caustic gusts, nickel-size hailstones and rainstorms.

The queue of thunderstorms on Tuesday night stretched from west of Gravelbourg, south to Coronach and further south to the U.S. border.

At this time, the storm travelled east through town at 60 kilometres per hour. Historically, the diagonal line extending from Gravelbourg to Coronach has produced wind gusts in excess of 140 km/h in accordance with Environment Canada data.

Environment Canada warned of theoretically life-threatening situations as the storm advanced through Assiniboia, saying 鈥淲idespread and extremely strong wind gusts can destroy buildings with tornado-like damage, flatten large stands of trees and blow vehicles off the road.鈥 Environment Canada further reminded Saskatchewan residents that severe thunderstorms are capable of generating tornadoes.

Environment Canada also advised the residents in the affected areas of South Central Saskatchewan not to drive through watered patches on the roads.

Also, Environment Canada said lightning has killed and injured Canadians every year.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued whenever pending or transpiring thunderstorms are likely to produce or are delivering one or more of the following weather patterns: considerable hail, destructive winds and torrential rainfall.
