SARCAN Recycling has temporarily closed their recycling centres

The global spread of COVID-19 is affecting everyone in Saskatchewan – it will take all Canadians to work together to minimize the damage caused by the virus.

The global spread of COVID-19 is affecting everyone in Saskatchewan – it will take all Canadians to work together to minimize the damage caused by the virus. One lesson everyone is learning in Canada is that the most effective way to minimize risk of the virus’s transmission is to reduce density and maximize social distance. As a result, SARCAN Recycling has made the difficult decision to indefinitely close its network of recycling facilities effective Saturday, March 21.

Employment creation is at the core of SARCAN’s values. As rates of new infections continue to grow in this province, SARCAN is acting to protect the health and wellbeing of their 700 dedicated recyclers, customers, partners and their communities. At this time, all of their hourly workers will continue to receive pay in alignment with their usually scheduled hours.

“Our employees are SARCAN’s greatest asset,” said Executive Director, Amy McNeil. “We are committed to doing everything we can to keep our employees healthy, safe and financially secure during these unpredictable times.”

The corporation is committed to reopening the SARCAN network once it is safe to do so. They are encouraging customers to save their deposit beverage containers, paint and electronics for their next SARCAN visit once they reopen. SARCAN Recycling will be working with provincial health authorities to determine the appropriate time to reopen their facilities to the public. They encourage customers to check their website and social media channels for updates on the reopening date.

Now is the time for all of Saskatchewan and the rest of Canada to pull together to do everything to limit the spread of this virus. Through this collaborative effort, SARCAN hopes to be back in the business of recycling in the near future.
