ROCANVILLE — The exterior of the pool building is going to be grey, something that came up at last week’s regular meeting of Rocanville town council.
“We are going to try and do some greys to complement the hall right beside it, and we are going to try and get a trim colour to match our oil can and try and go with that copper colour,” Administrator Tanya Strandlund explained of the exterior tin.
Work continues on the $4 million pool refurbishment project and the facility is expected to be fully operational for the 2025 swim season.
Library hours
Hours at the Rocanville Public Library will remain the same in 2025, with the Town of Rocanville’s funding portion being $17,552.30. The branch will be at the essential level, which means being open 15 hours to the public every week.
GIC reinvested
They chose to reinvest a GIC for $28,185.59 for one year at four per cent interest. Strandlund noted two more GICs will be maturing this winter.
Additional gravel
An addition to last week’s agenda was the town obtaining an additional 750 yards of gravel.
“We've gone through gravel like crazy this year,” Strandlund said, adding the extra product would be used for roads and fill when digs occur.
Drainage issues
Discussion took place about drainage around town, especially in the back alley of Edmonton Street.
“Unfortunately, our town is really, really flat, so it's very hard to drain appropriately,” Strandlund said. “So we're trying to figure out some ways to help with that.”
How flat is Rocanville? Strandlund noted that there are only a few inches of difference from one end of the town to the other.
“I can't remember exactly what it was, but we had inches from one end of town to the other,” she said. “We did not have feet to play with, we had inches.”
Building officials named
Council gave third reading to Bylaw 2024-04 regarding bylaw officials, naming Municode and Darren Cuthill Engineering as local building inspectors.
