James Marzotto, Manager of Business Development for Potential Renewables, recently announced a new opening for a facility manager at the Golden South Wind Farm south of Assiniboia.

The facility manager would be accountable for overseeing the operations and maintenance activities of the wind farm and administer long-term operations. They will also maintain the provision of quality work as delivered through independent service provider contracts.

Amongst many other duties, the facility manager would be expected to audit, plan and schedule operations and maintenance actions, routinely ensuring all the systems and mechanics at the wind farm are functional and up-to-standard.

Also, the facility manager must be able to intervene with any prolonged complications involving contractors, as well as audit the work and safety procedures of operations and maintenance suppliers. Ìý

Further, the facility manager will process right-of-way contracts, communicate with the landowners and deal with regular matters as they occur.

The manager must also assist in developing annual budget requirements and manage the facility within the confines of an accepted budget.

Establishing cooperative relationships with government health, safety and environment officials is yet another important aspect of this career, in the effort to guarantee that safety is preserved at the wind farm site.

Additionally, the facility manager must plan and schedule labour output, staff vacations and training. Effecting policies to maximize the facility’s revenue represents another cornerstone of this position, as well as reporting to the operation manager about all the modifications and equilibria within the wind farm.

The best candidate for this position must conduct themselves within a fast-paced, high-growth work environment. They should retain an entrepreneurial and collaborate spirit.

Also, the chosen candidate will have knowledge in high voltage electrics, including substation and switching. The prospective facility manager also requires a proven expertise in wind turbine components and operations.

Candidates must have the ability to climb a 110-metre wind turbine tower on occasion for HSE/LOTO inspections. They are required to work outside in all seasons, although most of their duties would be conducted indoors.

Minimum requirements incorporate the possession of a valid Saskatchewan Journeyperson Electrical Certificate, or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyperson Electrician Certificate, five to eight years of experience working with the maintenance of a wind facility and more than five years of experience in site planning, including managing vendors and maintenance schedules.
