Online learning opportunities for people who are interested in sports medicine

The South West District, in affiliation with the Sports Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan, expanded on a program they’ve developed which involved a series of six one-hour online courses running from May 14 to June 9.

The South West District, in affiliation with the Sports Medicine and Science Council of Saskatchewan, expanded on a program they’ve developed which involved a series of six one-hour online courses running from May 14 to June 9.

The courses are free and offered on the Zoom program. Interested future students are invited to register for as many courses as they would like. The registration deadline is 48 hours before the beginning of each workshop.

Sleep and Performance is scheduled on Thursday, May 14 from 6-7 p.m.  This course will cover sleep quality verses quantity as well as sleep deprivation. Questions involving sleep in relation to sports – including travel, nutrition, exercise, along with mental and medical considerations are covered. Also, tips on sleeping better are incorporated in this study.     

Mental Performance – Goals is slotted for Tuesday, May 19 from 4-5 p.m. This course will evaluate goal settings, such as setting realistic short term and long-term goals and monitoring goals.

Mental Performance – Stress and Relaxation is scheduled on May 26 from 4-5 p.m. This course is concerned with attentiveness as well as emotional and arousal control when managing anxieties and stress levels.

Mental Performance – Imagery will teach learners how to use mental imagery and visualization successfully. This course will run June 2, from 4-5 p.m.

Mental Performance – Routines is designed to instruct students on utilizing routines and practices with efficiency. This course is scheduled on June 9 from 4-5 p.m.

Sports Nutrition is a basic sports nutrition course emphasizing the importance of fluids, weight problems, pre or post event nutritional needs, best nutrition practises when on the road and multi-event nutrition. This one-hour course packed with information will run on Thursday, June 11 from 4-5 p.m.
