MOOSE JAW — The Festival of Words returns to Moose Jaw for its 28th year, bringing many authors and events for the community to enjoy. This year, a special guest is returning to promote his first book.

This special guest is the amazing and legendary comedian, Brent Butt. The comedian, best known for his work on Corner Gas, released his first book, a thriller novel titled ‘Huge’, back in October.

Butt will be promoting his new book at the festival on Saturday, July 20, in the Mae Wilson Theatre. Before he starts his promotion, Butt will be performing a comedy set, followed by an interview moderated by Rob Carnie. They will be discussing Butt’s career and his choice to write a thriller as opposed to a comedy. Following the interview, Butt will be signing books.

The event runs from 8-10 p.m. with the interview following the comedy set, with the book signing at 9:30 p.m. The entry fee for this event is $60. However, if you are planning on attending multiple events, an event pass might be more worthwhile.

‘Huge’ is a thriller set in 1994, revolving around three stand-up comedians named Dale, Rynn, and Hobie. These comedians begin a run of shows in a remote stretch of rural countryside. Hobie reveals his intentions may not be as pure as the others thought, leading them to realize that their tour has become less about laughs and more about getting off the road alive.

Brent Butt, the iconic Canadian comedian began his comedy career in 1988 by performing at amateur night at a Saskatoon comedy club. In 2003, Butt co-created the award-winning television series Corner Gas, which has won a variety of awards, including nine Canadian Comedy Awards and six Gemini Awards.

Before Corner Gas was released and gained popularity, Butt would often appear at the Festival of Words. In the ’90s, Butt would lend his comedic genius to the festival, providing them with comedy workshops and live comedy sets. Now he returns to promote his first book.
