La Loche’s Health Centre outbreak declaration has ended

The Saskatchewan Health Authority concluded the outbreak declaration at the long-term care facility in the La Loche Health Centre first made on April 17. 

Medical Health Officer Dr. Rim Zayed affirmed the outbreak had ended on May 16, after the standard 28-day period passed without new positive cases of COVID-19 in long-term care.

But Dr. Zayed warned community precautions would remain in place. Moreover, the exhaustive work to prevent the spread of the virus would continue, as the Saskatchewan Health Authority and community leaders worked in unison to restrict the presence of COVID-19 in the La Loche region.

Extensive door-to-door testing, mobile testing and aggressive contact tracing will persist in the community 925.1 kilometres northwest of Assiniboia.
