Unity looking to celebrate with creativity this Christmas

Winter Wonderland committee encourages creativity for long standing community tradition

UNITY - The all-female organization team for Winter Wonderland festivities held in Unity each December are looking to inspire creativity.

The Dec. 16 event, will include a variety of components aimed at providing a sense of community camaraderie and infusion of Christmas spirit.

Businesses are invited to get creative in the festive window display contest. Some wonderful window displays that were part of Remembrance Day showcased a great way to communicate a message to those driving by or entering the location. The best part is, there is even a trophy (and bragging rights) offered for the winner.

Dec.16 might also be an opportunity for businesses to get creative in hosting a special sale or activity as part of the community event. Shoppers can be assured pandemic protocols will be in place for promotions businesses may be hosting.

Residents, organizations, groups and businesses are being encouraged to get a float ready for the Winter Lights parade.

Organizers of last year’s parade said, “People were so excited to either be part of the parade or be a spectator, as it was something that could be done safely. There was so much joy and Christmas spirit that was portrayed and people expressed so much gratitude afterward that it will be great to offer it again.”

Delta Co-op is hosting live music in their new parking lot and what is Christmas without some festive tunes?

Hollyhock’s Greenhouse is even expecting a special visitor Dec. 16 and, photos with Santa are being sponsored by the Unity Dental Clinic, simply asking folks to bring a non perishable item for the Unity Food Bank.

Residents can also use the date to show off their creativity in festive decorations at home, as many people like to cap off the event with a twinkle tour of their own.

Those who are interested in participating in all or any of these activities as part of Unity’s Winter Wonderland tradition are encouraged to contact any one of the committee members: Hollie Robertson, Toni Bryan, Tammy Lauinger, Kendra Haji, Kayla Meredith, Christie Gerein or Nicole Headrick.
