A Sandy Bay man facing numerous weapons offences was denied bail today in Meadow Lake Provincial Court.

The hearing for 22-year-old Kiefer Morin was reverse onus, meaning that the defence had to show cause why it wasn’t justified to keep Morin in custody.

Morin has been in custody since he was arrested by Meadow Lake RCMP earlier this month.

According to police, they received two complaints around 7 p.m. on June 4 of a silver car driving erratically on Highway 55 coming towards Meadow Lake. Police determined the car was stolen from Prince Albert.

They located the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the driver refused to stop. The vehicle was soon located in a parking lot of a business on the 100 block of 9thÌýStreet west in Meadow Lake. When an officer tried arresting the driver, Morin allegedly backed into a police vehicle and his passenger, 24-year-old Madison Tinker of Saskatoon, tried to prevent police from arresting Morin. A second officer arrived to help and two civilians from a nearby business helped the police officers.

Morin was arrested and Tinker allegedly got out of the vehicle with a firearm and fled the area. She was arrested about a block away by the same civilians and the police. Police found the stock of a shotgun in a nearby garbage.

Meadow Lake RCMP say right after the arrests, the two responding police officers experienced symptoms possibly from inhaling or being exposed to a foreign substance. They were treated by medical professionals.

Morin was charged with five firearms offences, possession of property obtained by crime, impaired driving, dangerous driving, flight from police, and failing to comply with an order. He also faces charges of break and enter and robbery from an incident in Prince Albert in March.

Tinker was charged with possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, two firearms related charges, and failing to comply with an order.

Morin appears next in Meadow Lake Provincial Court on July 12.
