Bjorkdale News: Busy season for hockey teams in coming season

BJORKDALE — Brett Spedding, 17, of Bjorkdale was at the Jackfish Golf Club on Sept. 23 and 24 for the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association (SHSAA) provincial golf.

He came out with a great first round of 82 but end the tournament with a total score of 183 and finishing 36th in the province. The Northeast golf team finished fourth in the province.

“It was a beautiful course and a great experience,” Spedding said.

The Bjorkdale skating rink will be buzzing with lots of action this winter. Registrations have been tabulated and there were enough kids to make an under 9 Bjorkdale Bruins team. The team consists of: Cache Shapansky, Ryan Bratton, Kayden Bratton, Guilianna Vecchio, Nora Horn, Emberly Bartsch, Karsen Babcock, Brynn Goldsworthy, Sarah Goldsworthy, Bentley Johnson, Avery Bitner and Madison Johnson. This team will play in the North East minor hockey league so there will be many games to check out at the Bjorkdale rink this winter.

Bjorkdale has also combined with Arborfield/Zenon Park for an under 11 team. Players consist of: Dilly Van Haassert, Grayson Vecchio and Aubree Johnson. Games will be split between the communities.

The Under 18 AA Northeast Aces female hockey team unveiled their roster and local, Jaden Woulfe made the squad. Cherie Hudon, RM of Bjorkdale Administrator, also has a daughter that made the team, Alexis Jacobson. The team consists of girls from Tisdale, Melfort Porcupine, Carrot River, Naicam Kinistino, Humboldt and Hudson Bay. There first game of the year will be held on Sunday, Oct. 2 vs the Warman Wildcats at 12:45 p.m.

The Bjorkdale cross-country team is in full swing with the kids going to the Wapiti ski hill on Sept. 21. They had their set of first and second place finishers in bantam girls. Rowan Curry earned first and Gabriella Vecchio placed second. They had also ran in Tisdale the week prior and Grace Mohr finished first. Good job to all the runners.
