YORKTON - Isn’t there a saying that goes something like ‘what is old becomes new again’?

Well if there isn’t there should be in regards to the recently released game LoU DoO!

It is likely through the years most of us have played some version of the very ancient game Pachisi (there are a few variant spellings too).

According to Board Game Geek Pachisi is the national game of India, dates back to 4 AD.

Each player has a set of pawns that start in his or her corner of the board. The goal is to move the pawns around the board to the "home" section. Movement is controlled by dice. 

It doesn’t sound particularly deep but there are rules that give players some in-game control, and with four it can be a lot of fun, although there is some confrontation to it players need to be aware of.

Now we have LoU DoO!

The game is explained as a strategy board game for two to four players, in which each player races their four game pieces from starting zone to end zone according to the rolls of the two dice, with the objective to become the first player to get all their pieces across the board and into the end zone.

The board here is bright and colourful, so it will likely appeal to youngsters, and anything that gets kids to the table to play board games is a huge positive.

The pieces are plastic, bright and colourful, a descent size, but light.

There is a dice cup to shake and a small bowl to roll the dice into.

While nothing with the set screams greatness, for a family game night it most certainly works.

And therein lies the heart of this version of a very old game. It is an ideal, and since new accessible version online, of a game which has lasted centuries, and remains a fine game for families.

The rules are simple, so youngsters can learn. Rolling die is always fun. And, there is counting involved so kids get some math while having fun.
