YORKTON - It was three days waiting for the smoke to clear enough to take-off from Fond du Lac.
And then it was 15 hours to finally arrive in Yorkton.
But, in the end it was worth the effort as members of the Fond du Lac Fire Department defended their title capturing the Saskatchewan First Nation Regional Firefighting Competition held in Yorkton Thursday.
The competition saw five teams take on three ‘evolutions’ each focused on firefighting skills, and strength.
Events included moving rolls of hose, hitting a target with a hand pump, and using a fire hose to again hit a target.
With the win the Fond du Lac team earn a trip to Quebec for the National Competition on Sept. 16, being held at Kahnawake First Nation.
The event Thursday was the first time the provincial competition was held in Southern Saskatchewan. It was sponsored by the Yorkton Tribal Council and File Hills Qu’appelle Tribal Council.
Other teams competing included; Black Lake Fire Department, Morin Lake Fire Department (Hall Lake), Kahkewistahaw Fire Department, and Peepeekeesis Fire Department.
