KAMSACK — At a special meeting of the Assiniboine Valley Health and Wellness Foundation on Nov. 23, Affinity Credit Union was applauded for having donated more than $4,600 for the purchase of a new automatic blood pressure machine.

The Foundation is a non-profit organization that owns and operates the medical clinic and is responsible for doctor recruitment and retention, said Audrey Horkoff, president of the Foundation. Clinic operational costs are covered by the leases the doctors pay at the Assiniboine Valley Medical Centre, so capital purchases as well as doctor recruitment costs must be paid from donations, grants and fundraising.

The cost of the unit was $4,613.44, said Deb Cottenie, Foundation member.

“We’re committed to building a better world by investing our resources in bettering our communities, strengthening our economy and improving quality of life for individuals and families,” said information from Affinity, which was represented at the meeting by Bryan Cottenie of Kamsack, a director of Affinity Credit Union. “We focus on distributing funding to local programs and initiatives that make a meaningful difference.”

During the meeting, Horkoff said that “generous donations” from the RM of Cote, the Town of Kamsack and the Kamsack Hospital Auxiliary as well as personal donations have been received for doctor recruitment.
